Traditional approaches to professional development are costly and often ineffective in bringing about changes in practice and hence enhancing learning. In this session we will explore a new model of staff development, the Vital In-house Professional Development Partnership. Vital's approach provides cost effective, high quality staff development that is tailored to the needs of the institution. It has been designed to respond to the uncertain context that schools found themselves in following the change of government in 2011.   Having explained how the model works we will share evidence of its effectiveness (or otherwise) since its launch in October 2011. Possibilities for the future enhancement and extension of the approach will be discussed.
