Munch Poke Ping! Vulnerable young people, social media and the need for a new chapter in Internet safety.
In this presentation, experienced e-safety practitioner Stephen Carrick-Davies, outlines the findings from his report called ‘Munch Poke Ping’ which he completed for the Training and Development Agency. This study looked at the needs of teachers working with vulnerable young people in Pupil Referral Units when it came to understanding and using social media tools within their learning environment. In this speech Stephen will outline some of the ways in which social media and mobile technology can amplify offline vulnerabilities. He will also review the last decade of internet safety work and call for greater efforts to embed e-safety within wider digital literacy and practice. His current work in PRUS includes working with young people to positively profile their self-censorship skills and using web 2.0 tools and film making to help young people become active teachers and mentors to their peers.
